Term of office of members.- Except as otherwise provided in this Act, members of the District Panchayat elected at an ordinary election, shall hold office for a term of five years. (2) The term of office of the members elected at an ordinary election shall commence on the date appointed for the first meeting of the District Panchayat after ordinary election. (3) The member of a District Panchayat elected in a causal vacancy, shall enter upon office forthwith but shall hold office only so long as the member in whose place he is elected would have been entitled to hold office if the vacancy had not occurred.
