Term of office of members of Senate and Governing-c~uniil.-.. ( 1 ) Every elected and nominated member ol' the, Senate an9 ~ovenoin& Council, shall hold office for a period of three years and such member shall be eligible for election or nomination for another period of three years. ?,, (2) Any person who has conlpleted two terms of three years each: continuously in any one of the authorities referred to in sub-section (1) 1 shall be eligible after a period of three years has elapsed fro& the date of his ceasing to be such member for election or nomination for a further period of three years. .. . ,.t) Explanation.- For the purpose of thi5 section, a person wh~:h@i held office for a period not less than one-year in any one of the authori- . ' ties mentioned in sub~section (I) in a casual vacancy, shall be deemed to have held office for a term of three years in that authority. f (3) Where an elected or nominated member of any of the authorities is appointed temporarily to any of the offices by virtue of which he is' entitled to be an ex-ofjicio inelnber of any other authority, he shall.' by notice in writing signed by him and comn~unicated to the' Vice- ~hancellor within sevcn days from the date cq his taking charge of his appointment, choose whether he will continue to be a member of the authority to which he was elected or nominated by virtue,of his . electio11 or nomination or whether he will vacate office as such mem&- and become a member ex-oj'cio of any other authority by virtue of his appointment and the choice shall be conclusive. On failure to make such a choice, he shall be deemed to have vacated his office as an' elected or nominated member. (4) Where a person is a lnetnbei of any authority and by virtu61 , af such membershp, he is a member of any other authority or authorities ' 1 and if for any reason, he ceases to be a rnember of the first mentioned authority, he shall also cease to be a member of other authority i?r' authorities. 1 I (5) Nothing in sub-section (1) shall have application in respect of;- !' (4) It shall be the duty of the fi'rst Vice-Chancellor fo draft s~lch statutes, ordiilances and reguli-itions as may be necessary and submit them to the respective authorities competent to deal with them for their disposal. Such statutes, ordinances and regulations when framed shall , ' be published in the Tnnzil Nadu Government Gazette. (5) Not withstanding arlything contailled in this Act ' and statutes and until such time an authority is duly constituted, the first Vice-Challcellor may appoint any officer or collstitute any committee temporarily to exercise, perform and discharge any of the powers, func- , tions and duties of s~ich at-lthority under this Act and the statutes. ,
