(1) Any prisoner who assaults or uses criminal force to any prison officer or staff in execution of his duty or with intent to prevent or deter the prison officer or staff from discharging his duty, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which shall not be less than one year but which may extend to three years and shall also be liable to fine which may extend to fifty thousand rupees. (2) Any prisoner who assaults or uses criminal force to any person in the prison premises, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term which shall not be less than one year but which may extend to three years, and shall also be liable to fine which may extend to fifty thousand rupees.
