Power to enter and survey, etc. - Any Canal Officer or other person acting under the general or special order of a Canal Officer, may enter upon any lands adjacent to any canal or through which any canal is proposed to be made, and undertake surveys or levels thereon, and dig and bore into the subsoil; and make and set up suitable land-marks, level-marks and water-guages; and do all other acts necessary for the proper prosecution of any enquiry relating to any existing or projected canal under the charge of the said Canal Officer;
