Duration of Municipalities. 2(1) Every Municipality save as otherwise pro- vided in this Act, shall continue for five years from the date appointed for its first meeting and no longer. Explanation :- In this section "first meeting" means the meeting of the newly con- stituted Municipality held for the election of its President and Vice- President under section 20 of this Act. (2) All Municipalities existing immediately before the commencement of the Con- stitution (Seventy-Fourth) Amendment Act, 1992, shall continue till the expiration of their duration unless sooner dissolved by a resolution passed to that effect by the State Legislature.
