Conviction basis of evidence of official witnesses only - Valid. - The evidence of the official witnesses has to be weighed in the same scale as any other testimony. Where an effort was actually made by the Investigation Officer to get witnesses from the public but non were available, a conviction based on the evidence of the Official witnesses alone is not incorrect when it is not shown that they had any animus or hostility against the accused. The High Court reduced the sentence which was found excessive having regard inter alia to the fact that the accused was a woman.
