(1) For carrying out the purposes of this Act, the State Government shall, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint an officer, to be the Chief Registrar of Marriages and such other officers to assist him, as it may deem fit. (2) The Chief Registrar of Marriages shall have jurisdiction over whole of the State of Punjab and shall have all the powers and perform all the duties conferred and imposed upon him under this Act. All other officers, appointed under sub-section (1), shall exercise such powers, as may be conferred upon them by the State Government. (3) Every officer, appointed under sub-section (1), to assist the Chief Registrar of Marriages, shall exercise his powers, subject to the general superintendence and control of the Chief Registrar of Marriages. (4) The Chief Registrar of Marriages shall be the Chief Executive Authority in the State of Punjab for the purpose of giving effect to the provisions of this Act and the rules made thereunder. For this purpose, he may issue directions to all concerned to co-ordinate and assist in the working of registration of marriages in an efficient way and shall prepare a report in this regard in such form and submit the same to the State Government in such manner and at such Chief Registrar of Marriages. Non- registration not to invalidate marriage. intervals, as may be prescribed. 10 (1) The State Government shall appoint a District Registrar of Marriages for each District and such number of Additional District Registrars of Marriages, as it may deem fit, who shall, subject to the general control and directions of the District Registrar of Marriages, discharge such functions, as the District Registrar of Marriages may, from time to time, assign to them. (2) Subject to the general superintendence and control of the Chief Registrar of Marriages, the District Registrar of Marriages shall, superintendent the registration of marriages in the district, and shall be responsible for giving effect to the provisions of this Act and the rules made thereunder or the directions issued by the Chief Registrar of Marriages from time to time.
