(1) The Vice-Chancellor shall be appointed by the Chancellor from amongst the panel of five: persons, recommended by the Governing Body and shall, subject ti to’ fie provisions of this Act, hold office fora term of three years : : - Provided that the Vice-Chancellor shall continue to hold office even after the expiry of his term, till new Vice-Chancellor j joins. But, in any case, this period shall not exceed one year. (2) No. person shall be appointed. as s Vice- Chancellor, “unless he possesses such qualifications, as may be prescribed by the University Grants Commission or its equivalent body, created or’ constituted by the Central Government. (3) The Vice-Chancellor, shall be the orn ncipal executive and academic officer of the University, and shall exercise ‘general superintendence and control over the affairs of the University ‘and shall execute the decisions of various authorities of the University.
