*[(1) After the commencement of the Mahe Land Reforms (Amendment) Act, 1980, no document relating to any transfer of land shall be received for registration under the Registration Act, 1908, unless the transferor and the transferee make separate declarations in writing (in duplicate) in such form as may be prescribed as to the total extent of land held by him. (1A) The registering officer shall forward a copy of each of the declarations made under sub-section (1) to the officer authorised by the Government in this behalf for such action as may be necessary.] (2) If any person makes any declaration before the registering officer under sub-section (1), which he knows or has reason to believe to be false, he shall be punishable with fine not exceeding one thousand rupees. Notwithstanding anything contained in the Registration Act, 1908 where the Collector or any other officer authorised by the Government in this behalf informs the registering officer in writing that there are reasonable grounds to believe that any document relating to transfer of land which may be presented before him for registration is intended to defeat the provisions of this Act such registering officer shall not register such document until the Collector or the officer so authorised, as the case may be, informs the registering officer that the transfer is not intended to defeat the provisions of this Act.] Penalty for contravention of any lawful order
