(1) This Act may be called [the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection)] Act, 1994. (2) It shall extend to the whole of India 1A[x x x x]. (3) It shall come into force on such date2 as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint. Subs. by Act 14 of 2003, sec. 3, for "the Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Prevention of Misuse)" (w.e.f. 14/02/2003). Omitted by Act 34 of 2019. Prior to the omission it reads "except the State of Jammu and Kashmir" Came into force on 01/01/1996, vide S.O.990(E), dated 20th December, 1995, published in the Gazette of India, Extra., Pt. II, Sec. 3 (ii), dated 21st December, 1995.
