(1) This Act may be called the Orissa Protection of Scheduled Castes and extent and Scheduled Tribes lntcrcst in Tress Act, 1981. I eqmmeu* I I mcpt. (2) It extends to the whole of the State of Orissa. 13) It shall come into force oa such date as the S rate Government may, b9 n o w m tion* appoint in that b e W . 1 P&~IoD.. 2- In this Act, uaf ess the context otherwise requir* I (a) "Chief Conservator of Forests" means the Chief Gasemator of Forests, Orissa; (b) *'COmemtor of Forests" means the Conservator of Foresta of the conmtd forest circle; (c) "Contractor" means the person in whose favour the owner of any speded trce has cffecled a sale or has cutered into a contract fbr saIe of the timber of suchtreeand includcs the representative in interest and assignees of such peson ; (d) "Divisional Forest Officer" means the Divisional Folesr 0s- of the concerned forest division; (e) "Gnma Panchayat" mcans a G m a Panchayat constituted undtt the Orissa OrLgn dot Grama Panchayat Act, 1969; € of 1%5, Cf) "holding" means a palceI or parcels of land forming the subject of n sepamtr tenancy; ., (g) 'Prescribed" means prescribed by rules made under this Ad; (h) "Range Officer" means the forest officer in charge of a forest range: (i) "Scheduled Castes" shall mean the Scheduled Castes specified in respect of the State of Orisha iu the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Older, 1950 as modified from time to timc; ( j ) ''Scheduled !I~ibcs" shsll mean thc Scheduled Tribes specifid in resped of the S tatc of Orjssa in thc Canstitution (Scheduled Tiibes) Order. 1950 as modificd from time to time; Ik) ''specified tree" means a trec specXcd in the schedule and such other specie4 of tlees as may be natified by Government from time to time. -
