Any police officer working in a Commissionerate, who - making false or misleading staternenl. elc. and tor I misconducl ol police (i) is guilty of cowardice ; or (ii) being a police officer of subordinate rank, resigns his office . or withdraws himself from duties thereof in contravention of Section 27; or (iii) is guilty of any wilful breach or neglect of any provision of law or of any rule or regulation or any order which he is bound to observe or obey; or (iv) is guiliy of any violation of duty for which no punishment is expressly provided by any other law in force; or (v) being in a state of intoxication while on duty; (vi) is malingering or feigning or voluntarilycausing hurt to himself with the intention to render himself unfit for the service; or (vii) being grossly insubordinate to his superior officers or using. criminal force against any superior officer; or (viii) engages himself or' participates in any demonstration, procession or strike-or resort to or in any way abets any form of strike or c~ercion or physical duress to force any authority to concede anything, shall, without prejudice to disciplinary action that may be taken against him, on conviction, be punished with imprisonment for a term-which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to five hundred rupees, or with,both. Exp1anafion.-A police officer who being absent on leave fails; without reasonable cause,-to report himself for duty on the expiration of such leave shall, for the purpose of clause (ii), be deemed to withdraw himself from the duties of his office within the meaning of Section 27.
