All vacancies arising by reason of death, resignation or otherwise among the members of any of the authorities of the University, who were nominated or elected, shall be filled up as soon as convenient may be, by nomination or election, as the case may be, and any person so nominated or elected shall hold office for the unexpired portion of the term of his predecessor in office.
