Powers and functions of Deputy Chairperson of Municipal Council /Town Council: (1) In the event of the occurrence of any vacancy in the office of the Chairperson by reason of his/her death, resignation or removal or otherwise, the Deputy Chairperson shall act as the Chairperson until the date on which a new Chairperson assumes office. 2) When the Chairperson is unable to perform his/her functions owing to absence, illness or any other cause, the Deputy Chairperson shall perform the functions of Chairperson until the date on which the Chairperson resumes his/her office. (3) The Deputy Chairperson shall, while acting as or performing the functions of the Chairperson, have all the powers of the Chairperson under this Act.
