- S. 1(1) This Act may be called the Mizoram Public Libraries Act, 1993
- S. 2In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires :- (a) “Council” means State Library Council; Vol XXII Aizawl, Wednes
- S. 3Section 3 establishes the State Library Council in Mizoram, detailing its ex-officio and nominated members.
- S. 4The term of office of the members of the Council shall be a period of three years
- S. 5Section 5 states that a member of the Council automatically loses their position if they no longer hold the office that nominated or elected them.
- S. 6Section 6 fills vacancies in the Council with new nominations for the remaining term.
- S. 7(1) The Council shall meet at least twice in a year
- S. 8Section 8 mandates the Council to advise the government on library matters and establish a public library system.
- S. 9(1) On the commencement of this Act, the Department of Public Libraries shall be constituted with a Director at its head
- S. 10Section 10 mandates the Government to appoint officers and staff for public libraries as per rules made under the Act.
- S. 11Section 11 requires existing library staff to meet prescribed qualifications within a set time for absorption.
- S. 12Section 12 categorizes public libraries in Mizoram into State, District, Sub-divisional, and Village Libraries.
- S. 13(1) There shall be a State Library located in the Capital of the State
- S. 14The State Library shall function as Library as well as reservoir of books
- S. 15There shall be a, District Library in every District headquarters of the State
- S. 16There shall be a Sub-divisional Library in each sub-divisional headquarters
- S. 17Section 17 establishes Village Libraries in suitable villages recognized by the Mizoram Government.
- S. 18The Government may sanction Grant-in-aid to recognised Village libraries in ac- cordance with the rules made under this
- S. 19Section 19 authorizes the Council to recognize a State Library Association and mandates the Director to consult it on library matters.
- S. 20(1) The Government may, by notification, make rules to carry out the purpose of this Act
