(1) The Chairman and elected Member shall, save as otherwise provided in this Act, hold office for term of five years from the day of assuming the office or till the continuation of Market Committee, whichever is earlier. (2) Notwithstanding anything contained in subsection (1), a person who is a nominated Member of Market Committee by virtue of being a representative of cooperative marketing society, agriculture or horticulture department and District Council as the case may be, shall cease to be such member on his ceasing to be a Member of the managing committee of the society or District Council concerned by efflux of his term of office or otherwise, or renomination by the department, as the case may be.
