Inspection of Prisons- (1) There may be a two-fold system for inspections of prisons: (a) Inspections conducted by senior prison officers -The Head of Prisons and Correctional Services may have a prison inspected by an officer of appropriate rank at periodic intervals, as may be prescribed under the rules; and (b) Inspections conducted by the Board of Visitors - Boards of Visitors may be headed by the District Magistrate or District Judge and may comprise of such other official and non-official members for carrying out such functions as may be prescribed under the rules. (2) Every inspection shall be followed by a written report to the officer-in charge of the prison and to the Head of the Directorate of Prisons and Correctional Services.
