How district fund shall be drawn against.— (1) Subject to the provisions of sections 258, 259, 260 and 268 no payment shall be made from the Government treasury or by a bank or co-operative society out of district fund except upon a cheque or letter of credit signed by 8[the Chief Executive Officer] 9[or any officer specifically authorised by him in this behalf]. (2) Payment of any sum in excess of 10[one thousand rupees] shall be made by means of a cheque or letter of credit signed as aforesaid, and not in any other way.
