( 1 ) This Act may be called the Maharashtra State Commission for Safai Karmacharis Act, 1997. ( 2 ) It extends to the whole of the State of Maharashtra. ( 3 ) It shall come into force on such date 1 as the State Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette , appoint. ( 4 ) The term of the Commission shall be for a period of five years: Provided that the State Government may, reduce the said term or extend the term of the Commission as deemed proper.
