If a person notices an unauthorised use of canal water for which punishment has been provided in this Act and the rules made thereun- der and if he informs a Canal Officer in writing of such use and if this information leads to the detection of the offence and of the person re- sponsible for the offence, the Appropriate Authority may grant him such reward as it may deem fit.
