Inspector General of Police, etc. ––(1) The administration of the police throughout the general police district shall be vested in 2[an officer to be styled the Inspector General of Police and in such Deputy Inspectors General and Assistant Inspectors General as the Government may specify in this behalf]. The administration of the police throughout the local jurisdiction of the District Magistrate shall, under the general control and direction of such Magistrate, be vested in a Superintendent and such Assistant and Deputy superintendents, as 3[the Government] shall consider necessary. The Inspector General and the Superintendents of police shall from time to time be appointed by the Government and may be removed by the same authority.
