Penalty for failure to surrender possession of evacuee property. - Any person who fails to comply with a notice or demand by or on behalf of the Custodian under this Act, to surrender possession of any evacuee property shall be punishable with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine, or with both. [17A. Penalty for wrongfully paying or receiving rents, etc. in respect of evacuee property. - Any person who pays to or receives from any other person any sum of money in respect of any property which he knows or has reason to believe to be evacuee property or is likely to be declared to be evacuee property within the meaning of this Act, shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine, or with both : Provided that nothing contained in this section shall apply to render punishable any payment made to or received by the Custodian.
