(1) Subject to the provisions of this Act and the Statutes, the members of the staff of the University shall, be appointed by the University Governing Council. Except the officers under Section 30, the appointment of non-teaching staff of the University shall be conducted through Kerala Public Service Commission. (2) Except in cases otherwise provided for in this Act and the Statutes, every salaried officer and teacher of the University shall be appointed under a written contract. (3) The contract shall be lodged with the Vice-Chancellor and a copy thereof shall be furnished to the officer or teacher concerned. (4) The contract shall not be inconsistent with the provisions of this Act and the Statutes for the time being in force in relation to the conditions of service. (5) The procedure for selection of officers, teachers and other employees of the University shall, unless otherwise provided for in this Act, be such as may be prescribed. (6) The normal retirement age of the Dean, [x x x x] Director of Research, Director of Extension, Director of Regional Centres, Professors and other categories of teachers of the University shall be sixty years. (7) The normal retirement age of officers of the University other than the Chancellor, the Pro-Chancellor, the Vice-Chancellor and those specified in sub-section (6) shall be [fifty six] years.
