(1) The Vice-Chancellor shall be a full-time Officer of the University. [(2) The Chancellor shall appoint the Vice-Chancellor from a panel of three persons prepared by a Selection Committee consisting of, one person nominated by the University Governing Council, one person nominated by the Government and the Director General of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research or his representative: Provided that the nominee of the University Governing Council shall not be a person from among the members of that Council or an employee of the University: Provided further that if the Selection Committee fails to make a unanimous recommendation as provided, each member of the Committee may submit name of a person to the Chancellor, and the failure of any member to submit name of a person shall not invalidate the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor. If the advice given by the Selection Committee is not unanimous, the Chancellor may accept the opinion of the majority of the members. The representative nominated by the Government shall be the Chairperson of the Selection Committee.] [(3) The Vice-Chancellor shall have the qualifications stipulated by the University Grants Commission and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research and as prescribed by the Statue.] (4) The Selection Committee may formulate its own procedure for securing names of possible candidates for consideration and in consultation with such individuals or bodies as it considers appropriate. (5) Notwithstanding anything contained in sub-section (2), the first Vice-Chancellor shall be appointed by the Government for a period not exceeding five years on such terms and conditions. [(6) No person over the age of sixty one shall be appointed as Vice-Chancellor and shall, subject to the terms and conditions of his appointment, hold office only for a period of four years from the date of his assuming office after appointment. A Vice-Chancellor once appointed is not eligible for reappointment.] (7) The emoluments and other conditions of service of the Vice-Chancellor shall be such as may be prescribed. (8) The Vice-Chancellor may, by writing under his hand addressed to the Chancellor, resign his office. (9) The resignation of the Vice-Chancellor shall be delivered to the Chancellor ordinarily at least sixty days prior to the date on which the Vice-Chancellor wishes to be relieved from his office, but the Chancellor may relieve him earlier. (10) The resignation of the Vice-Chancellor shall take effect from the date of relief. (11) In the event of a temporary vacancy occurs in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, or if the Vice-Chancellor is, by reason of illness, absence or for any other reason, unable to exercise the powers and perform the duties of his office, the Chancellor shall make necessary arrangements in consultation with the Pro-Chancellor for exercising the powers and performing the duties of the Vice-Chancellor until a Vice-Chancellor appointed under the provisions of this Act assumes office. [(12) If the post of Vice-Chancellor falls permanently vacant, due to resignation or otherwise, that vacancy shall be filled in accordance with the provisions of sub-section (2) and the Vice-Chancellor so appointed shall hold office for a full term of four years.] Substituted by Act 18 of 2021 published in K.
