Appointment of the: Health Officer— (1) An _ urban local authority may, and if so required by the Government shall, appoint a Health Officer. (2) If an urban lecal authority fails to appoint a Health Officer in accordance with a direction issued under sub-section (1), the Government shall appoint’such officer and may recover from such local authority, the whole or such proportion of the salary and allowances paid to the Health Officer, and such con- tribution towards his leave allowances, pension and provident fund as the Government may, by general or special order, deter- mine.
