Inspection of canal boats

Inspection of canal boats.— (1) Where an executive authority within whose local area a canal or part of a canal is situate has reasonable cause to suppose that there is on board a canal boat any person suffering from an infectious disease, such authority may enter such canal boat and examine the same and every part thereof in order to ascer- tain whether on board such boat there 1s a person suilering from an infectious disease and may, if need, be detain the boat for the purpose but for no longer time than is necessary. (2) The person in charge of such a canal boat shall, if so required by the executive authority, produce to such authority the certificate of registration of the boat and permit such authority to examine and copy the same and shall furnish such authority with such assistance and means as such authority may require for the purpose of his entry into and examination of and departure from the boat. (3) Any person who refuses to comply with the requi- sition of the executive authority under this section shall be punishable with imprisonment for six months or with fine not exceeding one hundred rupees or with both.
