(1) The Government may, by notification in the Gazette, appoint any officer either by name or by virtue of his office to be a Survey Officer for all or any of the purposes of this Act. (2) Subject to the control of the Government and of any other officer or authority appointed by the Government in this behalf, every officer appointed as Survey Officer shall exercise the powers and perform the duties of a Survey Officer within such local limits as the Government may, from time to time direct. (3) The Government may, by order, direct that the power exercisable by them under sub-section (1) and (2) may also be exercised by such officer or authority, subject to such conditions as may be specified by them in this behalf.
