Appointment of officers to settle tax, etc.-(1) The Government may appoint or authonse such officer or officers as they deem necessary for the pUI p')sc of s<'ttling the tax or other dues payable by landholders to the Govetnmcnt or to any other authonty and for the issue of the pattas or other documents referred to in sub•sectwn (I) of ~ectwn II . (2) An officer appointed or authorised under sub-section ( l) shall perform such other functions as may be prescribed.
