It shall be competent to the defaulter or to any person acting on his behalf or claiming any interest in the immovable property put up for sale, to tender to the Collector or the authorised officer or to the officer conducting the sale the full amount of the arrears of public revenue due on land with interest thereon and cost of process, and apply in writing with receipt in token of payment, to the officer conducting the sale before the commencement of the sale, to stay the proceedings, and thereupon, the sale shall be stayed: Provided that all sums paid under this section or under Section 52 by any tenant or bona fide mortgagee or other encumbrancer or any person bona fide claiming an interest in the property adverse to the defaulter, may be recovered in the manner provided in Section 47.
