Every Municipality shall register all births and deaths occurring in the Municipal area under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 (Central Act 18 of 1969) and the rules made thereunder and make the registration compulsory.] Section 493 substituted by Act 14 of 1999, w.e.f. 24/03/1999. Prior to substitution it read as under: "493. Compulsory registration of vital statistics.- (1) Every Municipality shall register all births and deaths occurring in the Municipal area. (2) Information of births and deaths shall be given and their registration shall be made and enforced in the prescribed manner."
