The Ward Committee shall consist of the following members, namely:- (a) the Councillor of that ward who shall be its Chairman; (b) fifteen persons to be elected in the manner prescribed, from among the members of the resident's association of that Ward, which are registered in the Municipality; (c) twenty members to be elected in the manner prescribed from among the members of the registered neighbourhood groups of that Ward which are registered in the Municipality; (d) one person each nominated by every political party having representation in the Municipality; (e) the Heads of all recognised educational institutions functioning in that Ward; (f) twenty persons nominated jointly by the Chairperson and Councillor of the Ward, of whom,- (i) ten shall be from the persons representing the cultural organisations, voluntary organisations, educational institutions, industrial-commercial establishments which are functioning in that ward; (ii) five shall be from persons representing those working in that ward as professionals (experts in agriculture, industry, health, education, engineering etc.); and (iii) five shall be from persons in the registered trade unions: Provided that, the members nominated under items (i) and (ii) need not be the residents of that ward]. Section 43 substituted by Act 14 of 1999, w.e.f. 24-3-1999. Prior to the substitution Section 43 read as under: "43. Composition of Ward Committees.- A Ward Committee shall consist of - (a) the elected Councillor of the ward concerned who shall be its Chairman; (b) [ Not more than fifty persons] nominated by the Chairperson in consultation with the Councillor of the Ward from the following: (i) heads of educational institutions in the ward; (ii) presidents of the resident's Associations of Housing Colonies in that ward, registered with the Municipality; (iii) presidents of the area development societies formed by the urban poor in that ward, registered with the Municipality; (iv) representatives of important industrial or commercial establishments in that ward; (v) representatives of organisations of traders in that ward; (vi) representatives of recognised trade unions; (vii) Union Chairman of educational institutions in that ward; (viii) representatives of arts, sports and games, cultural organisations in that ward registered with the Municipality; and (ix) doctors of Government and private hospitals functioning in that ward; (c) three prominent citizens nominated by the Chairperson." * Substituted by Act 8 of 1995 w.e.f. 4-8-1995.
