The operator may, at his option, compound the tax payable by him under sub-section (3) of section 3 by paying in lieu thereof, a fee fixed in the manner specified in the Schedule, to the prescribed officer or to any other officer authorised by the Government in this behalf by notification in the Gazette before the 29th day of February, 1984.
