Section 39

Penalty for refusing to let hackney carriage for hire.-

Any owner or driver of any hackney carriage who demands more than the fare to which he is legally entitled, or without reasonable excuse refuse to let such carriage for hire shall be liable to a fine not exceeding fifty rupees and to pay such further sum by way of compensation to the party complaining as to the Magistrate may seem just; and such further sum shall, in default of immediate payment, be levied as if it were a fine.
