(1) On board every ship and in every dock; effective arrangements shall be made to provide and maintain at suitable points conveniently situated for all dock workers employed therein, sufficient supply of wholesome drinking water. Such drinking water points shall be available atleast within 100 metres of the place where dock workers are employed. (2) Effective arrangements shall be made to provide and maintain adequate supply of wholesome drinking water on board every ship in midstream for dock workers employed thereon. (3) The water provided for drinking shall be supplied from the Public Water Supply System or otherwise from any other source approved in writing by the Health Officer of the Port. (4) All such water points shall be visibly marked "DRINKING WATER" in Malayalam and no such point shall be situated within 6 metres of any urinal or latrine unless the shorter distance is approved in writing by the Chief Inspector. (5) Every drinking water centre shall be maintained in a clean and healthy condition and if necessary shall be under charge of a person who shall distribute the water. Such a person shall be provided with clean cloth while on duty. The number of water centre shall be as per the scale laid down in Schedule XI (6) The drinking water centre shall be sheltered from weather and adequately drained. (7) In case, storage tanks or containers are used for drinking water, they shall always be kept in hygienic and clean conditions. Such storage tank or containers shall be cleaned atleast once in every six months and record maintained. (8) The Chief Inspector may, by order in writing, direct the Port Authority to obtain, at such time or at such interval, as he may direct, a report from the Health Officer of the Port as to the fitness for human consumption of the water supplied to the dock workers. (9) In case water is supplied through other means than Public Water Supply System it shall be kept in suitable storage, containers or tanks having dust proof covers and kept on raised stands or platforms. All practicable measures shall be taken to ensure that tire water is free from contamination and kept clean and renewed at least once every year.
