Power of local authority to undertake schemes

Power of local authority to undertake schemes.-No local authority shall without the approval of the Board investigate, prepare or execute any scheme : Provided that no such approval shall be given by the Board if the cost of the scheme to be undertaken by the local authority exceeds or is likely to exceed fifty thousand rupees. 1[28A. Operation and maintenance etc. of the schemes by the Board.-(1) Notwithstanding anything contained in this Act or in any other law for the time being in force, if in the opinion of the Government it is expedient in public interest so to do, it may, by order, direct the Board to investigate, prepare, and execute any scheme in any local area and, subject to such terms and conditions as it may specify, to operate and maintain all works connected with such scheme. The cost relating to such scheme shall 18 be borne by the Board and it shall operate and maintain all works connected with such scheme and collect necessary water rates, rentals, fees and other charges relating thereto.
