Police to take charge of unclaimed property.—1[(1)]1 The police shall take temporary charge,— (a) of all unclaimed property found by or made over to them; and (b) of all property found lying in any public street, if the owner or person in charge of such property on being directed to remove the same, refuses or omits to do so.
