Penalty for vexatious delay in forwarding a person arrested.—Any Police Officer who veraciously and unnecessarily delays forwarding any person arrested to a 1[Judicial Magistrate]1 or to any other authority to whom he is legally bound to forward such person, 84 shall, on conviction, be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months or with fine which may extend to five hundred rupees or with both.
