Stay of execution of orders.—(1) The 1[x x x]1 2[x x x]2 Deputy Commissioner 3[or an officer or authority authorised under sub-section (1) of section 77 or the Assistant Commissioner or the prescribed authority under section 83,]3 4[or the Tahsildar]4 may at any time before the expiry of the period prescribed for appeal and pending the filing of the 84 appeal, direct the stay of execution of any order passed by such 1[x x x]1 3[officer or authority]3, as the case may be, for such period as it or he deems fit.
