Protection of lakes.- (1) The Authority may direct any Officer of the Government or any local or other authority who is the custodian, or in control, of any lake to permanently demarcate its boundaries and to take such other measures as may be necessary at their own cost. (2) The Authority may issue general or specific directions to any officer of the Government department or any local or other Authority who is the custodian or in control of any lake to take such measures as are necessary and expedient to remove encroachment or unauthorized occupation of such lake and prevent its recurrence. (3) The Authority may by order specify any lake as a heritage site or bio-conservation site or protected site, or reserve it for any special purpose in view of its historical, ecological or environmental importance and prevent from being put to any other alternate use and may specify its utilization, if any.
