Duty to maintain hygiene.– Every Gram Panchayat shall take steps to,- (a) maintain hygiene in the panchayat area and for that purpose it shall inspect and regulate the activities of individuals or establishments that are engaged in the catering of food, water and other consumables within the panchayat area. (b) provide clean environment free from open defecation and garbage.
