Election of Councillors: (1) Each council shall consist of such number of elected councillors as prescribed by the Government. The number of Councillors shall be determined on the basis of population ascertained at the last preceding census of which relevant figures have been published. (2) The superintendence, direction and control of preparation of electoral rolls, reservation of seats to various categories, rotation of seats and the conduct of elections of councillors under this Act and the rules made thereunder shall vest in the State Election Commission constituted under Article 243-K read with Article 243 -ZA of the Constitution of India.
