Section 17

Penalty for unauthorized marking with grade designation mark.

(1) Whoever marks saffron packing, not being authorized to do so under the Act or the rules made thereunder, shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year and fine not exceeding twenty thousand rupees. (2) Whoever imports saffron and marks its packing with a grade designation mark or brand name to indicate that it is a local product or sells it as ‘Kashmir Saffron’ under any brand name or mark, shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year and fine not exceeding fifty thousand rupees.
