Section 24

Jurisdiction to try offences.

(1) The offences under the Act shall be triable by the Judicial Magistrate having the jurisdiction in the area. (2) No court shall take cognizance of an offence punishable under the Act or any rules or regulations made thereunder, except upon a complaint in writing made by the City/District Slum Area Redevelopment Authority or by any officer of the City/District Slum Area Redevelopment Authority duly authorized by it for this purpose. (3) Notwithstanding anything contained in 1 [the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 (2 of 1974)], it shall be Judicial Magistrate of the First Class to pass a sentence of imprisonment or of fine or both under the Act.
