(1) This Act may be called the Identification of Prisoners Act, 1920*. [(2) It extends to the whole of India except [the territories which, immediately before the 1st November, 1956, were comprised in Part B States].] Subs. by the Adaptation of Laws Order, 1950, for sub-section (2). Subs. by the Adaptation of Laws (No. 3) Order, 1956, for "Part B States". By virtue of Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, Identification of Prisoners Act, 1920 has been extended as whole.
