Definition.-In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires, (a)"building" includes any structure or any part of a building as sodefined but does not include plant or machinery comprised in abuilding; (b)"clearance area" means the area notified under section 10 of theAct; (c)"competent' authority" means such officer or authority as, the StateGovernmentmay, by notification in the' Official Gazette, appoint as the competent authority for the-purposes of this Act; (d)"erection" in relation to a building includes- extension, alterationor re-erection; (e)"occupier" includes an owner in occupation of or otherwise
