Creation of Police Zones and Ranges.- (1) The State Government may, in consultation with the Director - General of Police, by notification, constitute the entire geographical area of the State into one or more Police Zones, each with its headquarters. Each Zone, comprising of two or more Police Ranges, shall be headed by an officer of the rank of Inspector-General who shall be responsible for superintendence and control of the police administration of the Zone and shall report to the Director-General of Police. (2) The State Government may, in consultation with the Director- General of Police, by notification, create as many PoliceRanges as deemed necessary, each with its headquarters. Each Range, consisting of two or more Police Districts, shall be headed by an officer of the rank of Deputy Inspector- General who shall be responsible for superintendence and control of the police administration of the Range and shall report to the Inspector-General in- charge of the Zone concerned.
