Reporting and Registration of Crime.- (1) Any person having knowledge of commission of any offence shall forthwith report the matter, along with all particulars within his knowledge, to the Police Station or Police Post having jurisdiction or the nearest Police Station : Provided that it shall be sufficient for the person to report such information by telephone or such other means as may be specified by the Director-General of Police by Standing Orders. THE HIMACHAL PRADESH POLICE ACT, 2007 43 (2) A report of commission of an offence shall be entered in the records of the Police Station forthwith in accordance with the law in such manner and on such format as may be prescribed. (3) The officer-in-charge of a Police Station or Police Post having jurisdiction shall cause the report to be investigated in accordance with the provisions of the law for the time being in force: Provided that if jurisdiction lies with another Police Station, the officer in-charge of the Police Station where the report has been lodged or entered, shall cause to be forwarded all necessary information to the officer- in-charge of such Police Station in such manner as may be specified by the Director-General of Police by Standing Orders.
