Special Police Officers.- (1) The State Government may prescribe procedures for appointment of Special Police Officers to assist the Police Service and prescribe the terms and condition of their appointment. (2) Subject to sub-section (1) , a District Superintendent of Police generally or specially empowered in this behalf by the State Government, may, at any time by a written order signed by him under his seal, appoint any able-bodied and willing person above the age of 18 years, whom he considers fit, to be a Special Police Officer. (3) Every Special Police Officer appointed under sub-section (2) shall have the same powers, privileges and immunities and be liable to the same duties and responsibilities and be subject to the same authorities as an ordinary Police Officer under this Act.
