Police Officers to take charge of unclaimed property.- (1) A Police Officer on duty shall take in custody all unclaimed property in such manner as may be prescribed. (2) Unclaimed property taken in custody, shall, with the approval of the District Superintendent of Police or Sub-Divisional Police Officer, be disposed off in such manner as may be prescribed, and proceeds shall be deposited into the Government Treasury after deducting the cost of transportation, storage and disposal of the property. (3) The Director-General of Police may, by regulations, fix the time limit having regard to the nature of the article, after which unclaimed property may be disposed off.
