Cost to be borne by the owners of the land benefited.- (1) The Government on receipt of demand in writing may, by notification, direct that a canal shall be constructed from a river, stream, creek or another canal for the irrigation of land in an estate or estates to be mentioned in the notification and that the cost of such construction shall be borne in whole or in part by the owners of the land to be benefited from the canal. (2) Provisions of this Act to apply to the new canals.- The provisions of this Act in regards to the construction, repairs, maintenance and management of canals included in Schedule I shall apply to the new canals constructed in pursuance of the Government notification issued under sub-section (1).
